Wisdom

I was brought back into this world of blogging by request. This person who called upon me, a blogging competitor and an old acquaintance of mine asked me to dabble back into this world of words and against my better judgement I obliged. What could it hurt right?? lol. Oh, and this person will have to remain unnamed, for the simple fact that if I direct you to their blog, my words of "Knowledge" will know longer do you any service. Call me selfish if you'd like.

Now to the question.

If you could change one thing, what would it be?

If I could change one thing.... I thought about this for a number of minutes, and many seemingly tangible thoughts came running into my head. I would change my car, the amount of money in my wallet, change the house I live in, stuff like that. But what good does that do anyone anyways. Material possessions never truly satisfy us, because enough is never really enough.

After a bit of reflection I feel led to talk about a story I learned in church as a young lad. Its found in 1 Kings 3, and it has to do with the biblical character Solomon. Ill save you all the verse by verse breakdown and tell you what stands out to me.  Solomon, son of King David, had married the Pharaoh king of Egypt's daughter was burning offerings to the Lord.  The Lord then appeared to Solomon and asked him "What shall I give you"?  This right here really trips me out, because God, (God of everything), says to a basic human being 'ask me for anything and you got it.' Wow, just wow. Let me continue, Solomon in response, and in more words than this asks God for Wisdom.

'Wisdom'. The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight.

I recall over the years getting certain compliments, mostly from elderly people like my Nana who would say something along the lines of, "Shane-o, you are wise beyond your years." I would say thanks Nan' and keep it moving, never realizing what a compliment that truly is. When did being wise become so boring. They say ignorance is bliss, but wisdom is knowledge, and knowledge is truly power. (which I guess makes "Good Knowledge" power, just saying)

So for me, for my change, ill throw away what I think I know and ill take that wisdom stuff. Not the whole I'm going to sit in a big red chair by the fire and read books and tell everyone they're wrong wisdom. I want the ability to know what is true and right and lasting, that sounds good to me.

In case you were wondering here's how it turned out.....

10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12 behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. 13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. 14 And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

Nice work Solomon, nice work.

Until next time, use Good Knowledge.... and pray for Wisdom.

Joy

Learn to find Joy in all things....

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds" -James 1:2

What has been given cannot be taken away, praise God for that.

Thats all, feel free to crack a smile or two. Cheers.

Up late

Well its approaching 3am here on the west coast, not that I receive any interest on the east coast.. Matter of fact I don't have much interest on any coast lol. Anyways, like I said its approaching 3am.. You may ask why is Shane up so late? Well I would respond with, that's none of your business. But, I have a little cough and earlier I took a nice 3 hour nap so I'm feeling pretty fresh at the moment.  I just saw Sherlock Holmes 2. Good flick. The movie makes we want to speak in a British accent and devise many plans with nothing more than the tools around me. But those are two gifts I have yet to acquire... Personally, life now is good. Many friends are venturing home for Christmas which is always fun. This is always a solid time of year where people are often more cheerful than usual.

The purpose of my writing is this. I have been giving thought to a message taught by a friend from the church recently. If your reading this and are saying "I hate church"! well please stick around, this also has a humanitarian message. If your reading this and are saying "I hate people"! well I'm sorry. There are a lot of people around. Life must be tough. lol :) (sideways smiley face)

I would like you now to think about a time where someone, maybe a friend, or just some random person made your day.

(Think)

Maybe it was a hello, or a phone call or a text or whatever. A time where someone went out of there way to make your day better. This act, for some, may happen all the time. But for many it doesn't. For this "Christmas Season" aka the season of giving. How bout we actually give something. I'm not saying that we all clean out our savings and make it rain in the streets, but how bout we call Grandpa and Grandma just to talk. How bout we pick up some food for a homeless man. Pay for the persons meal in the drive thru behind you. Pay for a friends meal because, well... they are your friend, and they have to deal with you. Tell your parents you appreciate there hard work and thank them. These things take little effort.

I feel like if we took 5 minutes to be a little nicer and give, then we would appreciate it more when it happens to us.

People helping People.

Feel free to make someones day. They might need it. -Cheers.

Interest

I'm making an effort to do this more frequently. By this I mean blog, and by more frequently I mean more than twice a year. I don't know how much "Good Knowledge" I have for you today. But, I stumbled upon a paper I wrote for my English class a few years ago. You may ask, why do you still have the paper around.  Well, because I never throw anything away, and I still use the folder. Lol

Nevertheless, the paper was on 1968, a crazy year which truly shaped our country. Vietnam was happening, MLK got shot, riots upon riots, hippie movement. It was nuts. I remember my teacher said that if there was ever a year where it would have been possible for the United States to self destruct, and cease to exist it was then. Jeez.

For the paper, we had to read the book "1968" and write a 7 page paper on the prompt.  Well I bought the book, skimmed through it and returned it. Sorry Barnes and Noble... And for my paper I ran low on quotes, wrote 5 pages and got a B. Whoops. Hah..

But thinking about all that history, where 40ish years later we look back and go "wow".  All those things that happened then that shaped the world we know today. My mind just wonders, from our lifetime, me at least (1990- to hopefully 2065.. -- 75 years seems like a good run. Lol.. I wonder though, what will be the events of our generation that people 50 years from now go "wow" about? Obviously 9/11 will be forever remembered... But what else? I hope our generation is remembered for more good things then bad, but on the other hand.... Who doesn't like a good riot?

Till next time -- Cheers

thoughts

hmmmmmm, hello here I am again.... Back from a nice 8 month break where a lot happened, but little of those events I can remember.  Just kidding, but seriously its a blurr...  Anyways, now that I have dusted off my keyboard, rediscovered my password, and have gotten back on "the horse".  I will try my best as always to entertain and educate, well at least entertain.

After some communication with a "new reader" I have a topic in mind for this post, this topic is very relevant and controversial. I hope that political views or aspirations would not override the purpose of my writing. And to be honest, I don't like politics, I go out of my way to stay out of political confrontations.  Usually nothing good comes from it.

With that being said, I would like to give some thoughts to the "occupy" issue. But not to the issue itself, just using something from it as an example to show how truly blessed we are.

For the record, if you want to sleep in a tent and all that, knock yourself out, although I'm sure theres other things you could be and probably should be doing.

Ok, now to the point.  Many pictures surfaced surrounding these occupy events.  The first-- a man with a sign saying "WE ARE THE 99%" representing those not in the 1% most wealthy in the United States.  The next was a picture I saw on facebook a day later. It had a picture of starving African children and it read "THE REAL 99%".  I was taken back by the picture, most people have been so desensitized by the media that this picture means relatively nothing to them. Or, people feel sad for a moment but below the picture is 'Michael's' status about the big game this weekend.

The reason this picture provoked me was because of my personal interaction with starving Africans, and yes they really do exist.  In my time in Ethiopia, the poorest country in the world, I encountered many who were not guaranteed a meal a day, real starving people... and I had 3 bags of beef jerky in my suitcase.  It puts things into perspective for me. One stat that was told to me which I will never forget and always humbles me is this.  If you make more than "1" dollar a day, than you are apart of the 1% richest people in the world. We are the real 1% whether we would like to admit it or not.

I am all for standing up for what you believe in, but let us not forget how blessed we truly are, and how many would kill to be in our shoes.  I hope that at some point we would all answer the call to help those in the "99" who are less fortunate than us.

That may have gotten a little heavy lol- until next time, use Good Knowledge.

By Request Ive Returned

I was trying to think of something interesting to write about for my 5 followers to enjoy.  But what I have become infatuated with.. (big word I know lol) is just all different genres of music and not only that but the process of making music.  I have say, and many will hate, but first and foremost I always have and always will be a country boy, till I die.  Now that that's out there we can hopefully move on-- but in all seriousness country just speaks to me, I used to hate when my Dad would play George Strait, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis (to name a few) growing up.  But the sooner I accepted it the better life became. The thing I love about music is that it is adjustable.  It can be what I want it to be.

Hip Hop is number 2.  I have fallen in love with curren$y's music.  I will say that because Matt liked it I was hesitant, but I have come around.  The reason I like the music is because he is an artist who doesn't give a damn what the radio or anyone else thinks.  He talks about his life, his passions and whatever else he wants, someone like that who doesn't sell out to achieve fame and fortune is refreshing.  Nowadays its trendy to sacrifice your morals or beliefs to be someone your not or who you think everyone wants you to be.

The process of making music is so advanced I couldn't begin to explain it.  But what I always say is that you cant hate on someone who makes music. Unless its Soulja Boi... then blast off. Hahah anyways,  Theres something about creating music from scratch that is completely authentic and original that's gets me going I dunno.

That's all I got for now.  Ill blog about San Diego when I get back, should be interesting.
Remember to use #goodknowledge.

The thing is

If you still remember that this blog exists than thank you.  I feel like I haven't done this in a while.  So without anymore nonsense ill get right to it.

The thing is, Lately, I feel like I've been in a pretty good mood, if you ask my friends they'll probably tell you im an asshole.  Which might at times be the case but for the most part im happy.  I think im happy because im busy.  And not like I have been doing chores all the time, because I do very little around the house except walk around with my shirt off and fake laugh at most things that are said by mom and pops.  But im actually apart of some kinda exciting stuff.  My boy Jake Slakey is doing his thing musically and to be honest, its really good.  I gotta shout DP and Sam as well because they are a team, and they make some good music.  So me and Joey are I guess you could say co-Managing/ Promoting them.  Its really fun, and if we can get the ball rolling I think some good things could come from it.  Also if Matt would ever breakdown for long enough to finish that screenplay then that would be tight.  I just feel that from all the stuff we are trying to start somethings gonna pop.  If you put enough friends together that are talented and creative, then something good is going to happen.

Also, im going to Africa in June for 2 weeks.  Which is crazy to think about.  But with God, anything is possible, so im not worried.

Anyways, shouts to Fraternity Lifestyle aka Frat Life clothing coming soon. Shouts to Jake and "SF".. The mixtapes called "The Release" coming in March.  And shouts to our movie coming summer 2012.. hahahah. well see.
