SCALPERS

When I first say Scalpers I immediately think of the great film "Inglorious Bastard's" and the scenes where the American Militia scalp the enemy Nazi soldiers. But, for this post ill hold off on the gore and talk about the other type of scalpers.  The ones you may find at a sporting event or concert.

So the plan was to head down to Santa Cruz the other night to see Mac Miller, who is an up and coming young Caucasian Rapper.  Anyways we are about to leave and Matty T tells me to call the Catalyst, where the show was at, to make sure that it wasn't 21 and over.  I call and the lady answers the phone saying, "CATALYST, MAC MILLER SOLD OUT HOW CAN I HELP YOU?" by the way she wasn't yelling I just thought it would be easier to read.  So I say, "REALLY?" and she, obviously easily irritated, says, "YEA!".. I then quickly hang up, for my own protection.

After hearing this news we realise we have a decision to make... Do we just stay home.  Or do we try and buy from scalpers?

If your at home reading this and you think the story stops there you are mistaken.  We made the drive, roughly an hour and a half down there. Listening to at least 25 Mac Miller songs, in hopes of warming up I guess.. and with Matt almost killing us twice. lmao.  And... with his moms car putting out a smell that would kill most people within minutes, not us though.  We were resilient.

Now in Santa Cruz we meet up with Matt F, we go to a Restaurant named "Burger" creative I know.  I had the Hank Williams SR. burger. Delicious I may add.  Go and try it. After we all kill our respective meals, Matt and Joey get seconds and we go back to Matt's place.  Where we proceed to play about an hour of Nazi Zombies on Call of Duty.  That was fun.

We then pile into Matt's moms car, with full stomachs and maybe some optimism.  And head downtown to the Catalyst, on the ride there we reminisce about the good times we have had in Santa Cruz and me and Matt just mess with Collin.

So we park about a block away, If you knew Matt T and Joey.. they just don't have what it takes to talk to strangers, and they know this, so they sit in the car.  So we gather the money, 20 bucks from each person and we had 5 people so with my geometric knowledge that adds to 100 buck.  Matt F holds the money and me and Collin walk with him.  Collin acting as the muscle of the group. (lol... imagine that) Anyways, we turn the corner and see that a small line is forming... its about 8pm and the doors open at 830.

Now if you have ever tried to spot a Scalper its not difficult, you look for the person who is not moving, and doesn't look like they would ever go to the respective event. So we see this black guy I ask if he's got tickets.  He says no but this guy does, he points and walks us down to this Mexican guy in front of the entrance.  Matt goes, "you got tickets?" he says, "yea, how many you need?" Matt says, "5" and the scalper goes, "that will be 200" Matt says, "40 a ticket?!!... wow how about 20?" the scalper says smugly, "good luck gettin in." He was playing hard ball.

We go back to the car a little shocked and discouraged.  We tell Matty and Joe the news.  They are surprised as well.  After a few minutes of sitting there, talking about the girls in the car next to us, and messing with Collin again. We decide to take a walk.  We stroll down to Barnes and Noble, really in hopes of finding a bathroom.  Of course, for customers only.  So we sit in those comfy chairs and Matt F reads us a story about Valentines Day.  The book was at about 2nd grade reading level.  It was humorous and painful.  Once he finishes.. A homeless man abruptly walks in yelling, although his voice was gone so it was just annoying.  Sounding like a dog trying to bark with a muzzle on. He was saying something about this being his store.  We all hold back laughter, except for Joe, who literally laughs out loud (lol).

We bounce from there and muster up the confidence to try again.  Were telling ourselves that we didn't come out here for nothing and all that crap.  So we ask a couple random people if they have tickets.  They all say no.  I guess our scalper spotting skills were off. At this point we work our way back to the same guy to try and work him down, its about 915 at this time and the opening act has begun.  Some guy named "Veggies" who knows.  Now we walk up and get offered tickets from 2 random people, but they only had 2 tickets total and we had 5 people, so we declined.  As we head up to the main scalper some guys yells out "I got a ticket"..."30 bucks" I immediately am like well take it. Now the head scalper is like "35".. to the guy.  In hopes to have some sort of a monopoly over the tickets.  Pretty smart when you think about it.

The scalper is finally like alright, 35 each. Which is, when you think about it is almost 3 times profit.  They were 12 dollars presale.  We agree, hit the ATM and gather some cash, and buy the tickets.  We all walk in, feeling successful.  Like we finally made it.

Once inside, we posted against the back wall and listened to the last songs from the Veggie guy.  Who needs a new name and new songs IMHO.  He wraps up around 945.  Then the DJ plays music for about an hour and 15 minutes.  I guess Mac Miller was late, but it was his show so he can do what he wants, and it was his birthday as well, which was cool.

All in all a good show, and with the amount of Mary Jane/ Medication being released into the air, a building wide contact high was shared.

Cheers.

Welcome Back.... Shane.

Hello all.  If your still checking my blog.  And if you are, I'm sorry I have been... how to say it.  Ill go with absent.  Or maybe I was just on a winter break. Yea the second one sounds better.  None the less I am back bringing you mindless babble to entertain whoever might stop by for a quick read.

It is the new year... well its the 3rd now, and the country's 3 day hangover has passed and the rose bowl is history, TCU played a great game for those who tuned in.  And finally 2010 is over. I shouldn't say finally, it wasn't that bad, just not that good. So as I type, I try to think about how 11' will be.  This will be a big year for me.  God willing ill transfer to CSU LA later this year and ill be 21, which will be cool, because now I can win the world series of poker........  Haha. Seriously tho.

So I guess now is the time to make a resolution, everyone always says I wanna lose 10 pounds.  Which I guess would be cool, but that's not it.  Or eat right, but I'm 20.  And Taco Bell is really good. Anyways,  Ive decided that my resolution will be live life with an attitude that in whatever I do, school or what not, that I will not skate by, or fog a mirror as my mother would say. But to actually put 100% of my ability into my responsibilities.  Now whether I go through will have to be seen, but at least I got something down on paper.  Or a blog.

Until next time. Cheers.
